Supporting bereaved and carer engagement Step by Step for Peace X Doctors and Patients Accompany You 2.0
There's a widespread social perception that those who need help are weak. In reality, no one person can solve every problem. Knowing how to seek help and accept support promptly is a sign of courage and resolve.
The Hospice Service is a non-profit organization in Hong Kong that provides palliative care and bereavement counseling . We emphasize holistic care encompassing the body, mind, social, and spirit. Over the years, we have worked with countless patients, caregivers, families, and bereaved individuals. We understand the challenges of ensuring a "good death for the deceased and a good farewell for the living." The pain faced by patients, the stress borne by caregivers and family members, and the grief felt by the bereaved all require early recognition and proper management to achieve physical and emotional well-being.
The Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon is the largest annual sporting event, promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging the public to engage in beneficial physical and mental exercise, just as the marathon represents the spirit of overcoming difficulties, perseverance and never giving up.
The Hospice of Hong Kong has applied for a place in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon Charity Project in the hope of providing caregivers and bereaved individuals with an opportunity to release their emotions, challenge themselves, and cultivate courage and perseverance through the marathon. A marathon is more than just a race; it's a life lesson, allowing the public to see that every experience in life has meaning and value. Why not focus on the journey rather than the end result? More importantly, "a healthy lifestyle is a choice." A positive and optimistic mindset makes it easier to live a healthy and fulfilling life. Funds raised from the marathon will support the Hospice of Hong Kong's professional bereavement counseling and grief support services for families of terminally ill patients and bereaved individuals, helping them overcome emotional distress and find meaning and purpose in life.
For this event, the Hospice Society's promotional theme is "Step by Step for Peace" x Doctors and Patients, Running with You 2.0. We have invited the Cancer Information Network Charity Foundation to be our partner. The Cancer Information Network Charity Foundation is a charitable organization supporting cancer patients and their families. A member of the Hong Kong Council of Social Service and the International Union Against Cancer, the foundation provides financial, psychological, and social support to cancer patients. It offers financial medical assistance, free nutritional supplements, free oncology consultations, and co-organizes the Kowloon Cancer Rehabilitation Clinic at the University of Hong Kong Jockey Club Integrated Cancer Care Centre .
Throughout its years of service, the Cancer Information Network Charity Foundation understands that cancer patients go through different stages of their lives, some requiring additional late-stage care. Hospice Care is their best partner. Life may not always be perfect, but we can define our own lives, choose to face adversity with a smile, and live beautifully. Hospice Care's motto is "Heaven determines life's duration; we give it meaning." The Cancer Information Network Charity Foundation believes that "imperfection is beauty" and "Together, we can go further." The Cancer Information Network Charity Foundation hopes to promote the positive energy of mutual support and encouragement through the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon Charity Project. This year, the " Doctor-Patient Run 2.0 " team will participate . Doctors , pharmacists, and cancer patients will train together and complete the race together. The Cancer Information Network Charity Foundation will also allocate spots for cancer survivors, allowing them to invite a valued partner who has been with them throughout their treatment journey to join them in the 10-kilometer race.
Hospice will be collaborating with the Cancer Information Network Charity Foundation to promote the "Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2026 Charity Project". By integrating the resources and audiences of both parties, this will not only demonstrate the harmony and solidarity between the charitable organizations, but also create synergy effects, achieving greater benefits than the sum of their parts.
